Monitoring Procedure
Depending upon the reported DTC, the ECM will adopt one of the following default actions- Cruise control inhibit
- Engine speed limited to 3000 r.p.m.
- Reverse gear throttle adopted (18°)
The ECM uses comparator circuitry to verify the status of the VVT when it is expected to be OFF. If the output is high then a normal judgement is made, however if the output is repeatedly low, a failure judgement will be made.
The average position of the "B" bank inlet camshaft constantly measured for the "B" bank solenoid ON and OFF conditions. For the ON condition the camshaft must repeatedly advance by a set amount, if it does not, a range/performance failure judgement is made. Conversely the OFF condition is monitored against the retarded position.
