Pinpoint Test C: P0118

C1: RETRIEVE DTCS

NOTE: Battery & or ECM disconnection prior to scanning will erase all data, ensure that the correct DTC is present.





Connect scan tool
Record DTC(s), freeze frame data & GO to [C2]

C2: CHECK ECT SENSOR SHORT





Disconnect P1004 & measure the resistance between sensor pins #1 & #2
^ Resistance < 100 Ohms?
-> Yes
Renew sensor & proceed to C5
-> No
GO to [C3]

C3: CHECK FOR SHORT TO B+





Measure the voltage at the ECT connector P1004/002
^ B+ ?
-> Yes
Locate & repair the harness/connector (P1001/005) short to B+ & test the system for normal operation
-> No
GO to [C4]

C4: CHECK CONTINUITY HARNESS





Measure the voltage between P1004/001 & P1004/002
^ > 5.2 Volts?
-> Yes
Renew ECM
-> No
GO to [C5]

C5: END
Perform appropriate service drive cycle & check for the presence of DTC
^ Has the fault code cleared?
-> Yes
STOP
-> No
