Pinpoint Test B: P0117
B1: RETRIEVE DTCS
NOTE: Battery & or ECM disconnection prior to scanning will erase all data, ensure that the correct DTC is present.
Connect scan tool
Record DTC(s), freeze frame data & GO to [B2]
B2: CHECK ECT SENSOR OPEN CIRCUIT
Disconnect connector P1004 & measure the resistance between the ECT sensor pins #1 & #2
^ Resistance > 30k Ohms?
-> Yes
Renew sensor & proceed to B6
-> No
GO to [B3]
B3: CHECK CONTINUITY HARNESS
Measure the resistance between the ECM connector EM011/009 & the ECT connector P1004/002
^ Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms?
-> Yes
GO to [B4]
-> No
Repair the harness/connector (P1001/005) & test the system for normal operation
B4: CHECK CONTINUITY HARNESS
NOTE: To avoid a spurious result, disconnect connectors P1042 & P1006 (electronic throttle body) & P1035 (MAP meter).
Disconnect ECM connector EM010 & measure the resistance between the ECM connector EM011/012 & the ECT connector P1004/001
^ Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms?
-> Yes
GO to [B5]
-> No
Repair the harness/connector (P1001/006) & test the system for normal operation
B5: CHECK CONTINUITY HARNESS
NOTE: Do not reconnect electronic throttle body connectors P1042 & P1006
Measure the resistance between the ECM connector EM010/020 & the ECT connector P1004/001
^ Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms?
-> Yes
GO to [B6]
-> No
Repair the harness/connector (P1001/006)
Reconnect P1042 & P1006 (electronic throttle body), P1035 (MAP meter), EM010, EM011 (ECM), ETC & test the system for normal operation
B6: END
Perform appropriate service drive cycle & check for the presence of DTC
^ Has the fault code cleared?
-> Yes
STOP
-> No
