Issue:
As the result of a low incidence process concern at a supplier, the final drive bearing circlip on a small number of XK8 vehicles within the above VIN range could become dislodged under extreme driving conditions. This could cause the output shaft to separate from the final drive unit.
*The concern does not exist on vehicles with VINs before 001531 or after 006306, with the exception of the 25 vehicles listed at the end of this bulletin.*
Action:
*Check the condition of the circlip and repair, if necessary, as described. Vehicles that have been checked are marked with a yellow paint dot over the final drive unit serial number.* Check all XK8 vehicles within the VIN range 001531-006306 plus the specific vehicles listed at the end of this bulletin. Recheck the vehicles listed which may have already been checked previously.
The following sequence of checks is to be carried out until the vehicle is determined to be satisfactory:
A. CHECKING SERIAL NUMBER OF FINAL DRIVE UNIT
B. MEASURING CIRCLIP
C. REPAIR PROCEDURE STAGE 1 - SEATING EXISTING CIRCLIP
D. REPAIR PROCEDURE STAGE 2 - REPLACING CIRCLIP
E. SUPPLEMENTARY PROCEDURES
Marking
When all necessary action as detailed above has been completed, apply a bold spot or patch of yellow paint over the final drive unit serial number, on the rear face of the casing, to indicate that the vehicle concerned has been checked and that, if necessary, the repair action has been completed.
