E. Supplementary Procedures
Drive flange stud damage1. If a thread on a drive flange stud is damaged, the damaged stud should be pressed out of the flange:
2. Support the flange on the bed of a press. Align a suitable driver with the end of the stud.
3. Operate the press to remove the stud towards the bearing.
4. Reverse the drive flange assembly in the press, and support.
5. Insert the replacement stud, align a suitable driver with the rear of the stud, and operate the press to drive the stud fully into position.
Marking
When all necessary action as detailed above has been completed, apply a bold spot or patch of yellow paint over the final drive unit serial number, on the rear face of the casing, to indicate that the vehicle concerned has been checked and that, if necessary, the repair action has been completed.
