Rubbing Noise - Transmission Harness Loose - Repair Procedure

Issue:

Some 1997 MY XK8 vehicles within the above VIN range may experience a rubbing noise that appears to come from the drive shaft. This noise may be caused by the harness that connects to the rear of the transmission, contacting the drive shaft or the front coupling. The rear retaining clip for the harness may become detached from the left side transmission heatshield. Improved retaining clips have entered production from VIN 004733.

Action:

After verifying a customer complaint of a rubbing noise from the drive shaft on a 1997 MY XK8 within the above VIN range, proceed as follows:

1. Remove the existing clip.





2. Use a tie strap to secure the harness to the selector lever cable as shown in Illustration 1. If the harness branch is seriously damaged, replace the entire engine management harness.
