Operation

The MAF sensor is located in the air flow meter housing. The sensor is of the "hot-wire" type, which registers air flow by the cooling effect of incoming air passing over it (the cooling effect alters the resistance of the wire). The electrical resistance value is converted to an analogue output voltage signal to the ECM.

This component is NOT serviceable, necessitating the renewal of the MAF meter assembly should a fault occur.





The intake air is monitored by the Mass Air Flow (MAP) sensor assembly which is fitted at the outlet of the air filter assembly. Two sensors are incorporated in the MAP sensor assembly, measuring air flow and temperature (temperature sensor arrowed); both sensors provide analog signal inputs to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
