A/C Low Pressure Hose - Interference With EGR Pipe - Service Action S 820
Issue:
On XK8 vehicles within the VIN range 001036-011462, interference can occur between the A/C low pressure hose at the rear of the engine and the EGR pipe, which in extreme conditions could lead to rupture of the hose and the loss of the refrigerant gas charge.
The concern can be eliminated by installing a special heat resistant tie strap to improve the retention of the hose as described in this bulletin.
Action:
Modify all stock vehicles within the above VIN range. In the case of vehicles already in service, perform the modification at the next service visit.
In case the A/C hose has ruptured due to the condition described above, claim the hose replacement and system recharging through normal warranty procedures. Secure the new hose with the special heat resistant tie strap as described in the bulletin.
MODIFYING A/C HOSE RETENTION
1. Release and open the hood and install fender covers.
2. After removing the two retaining bolts, move the air intake duct away from the throttle body to provide access.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the cruise control actuator.
4. Install the special high-temperature specification tie strap as indicated in Illustration 1, by passing the tie strap around the body of the 55-way connector and around the low pressure hose, adjacent to the flange of the EGR pipe.
NOTE:
Tighten the tie strap only enough to locate the low pressure hose 10 mm (3/8 inch) away from the flange of the EGR pipe. The pipe should NOT be pulled tight against the 55 way connector.
5. Trim off any excess length of tie strap.
6. Reinstall the air intake hose and its retaining bolts; reconnect the cruise control vacuum hose.
7. Remove the fender covers and close the hood.
Parts Information:
NOTE:
ONLY the above tie strap MUST be used in this application, due to the high underhood temperatures which may be experienced in this particular location.
Warranty Information:
NOTE:
In the case of a separate claim for replacing the low pressure hose and recharging the refrigeration circuit, use the fault code JJ NB HJ.
CLAIM SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Warranty summary codes have been assigned to this service action in order to simplify claim submission. The dealership will be reimbursed the parts and labor time allowance as indicated.
