Convertible Top - Storage Cover - Revised Fastening

Issue:

The snaps for securing the convertible top storage cover to the back of the rear seat have been deleted from VIN 011097.

The change was originally planned for 1998 MY. As a result the 1997 MY Driver's Handbook does not describe how to secure the revised cover. The instructions and revised illustrations from the 1998 MY Driver's Handbook are included in this technical bulletin.

Action:

On XK8 convertibles from VIN 011097, secure the convertible top storage cover as follows:

INSTALLING REVISED STORAGE COVER (WITHOUT FRONT SNAPS)

1. Open the luggage compartment.

2. Ensure that the convertible top is fully folded down.





3. Place the cover in position. Secure the front edge of the cover to the top of the trim panel with the two ring-pull fasteners. Pull out the rings and engage the open claws over the studs, then release the rings (Illustration 1.)

4. Tuck the cover sides inside the body.

5. Tuck the front edge of the cover under the back of the rear seats.

6. Tuck the end straps into the gap at the luggage compartment lid hinge area, then close the lid.
