Action/Removal

1. Remove the carpet of the convertible top storage compartment from the vehicle.

2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the backlight heater.

3. Lower the convertible-top.

4. Remove the rear seat cushion. See Jaguar Technical Information System (JTIS) CD-ROM, section 501-10, (76.70.37) for removal instructions.

5. Remove the rear seat squab. See JTIS CD-ROM, section 501-05 (76.70.38) for removal instructions.

6. Remove both rear quarter casings. See JTIS CD-ROM, section 501-05 (76.13.73) for removal instructions.

7. Disconnect the harness connectors from both rear speaker assemblies.

8. Disconnect the security antenna connectors from the rear speaker assemblies.

9. Remove retaining nuts, and remove both rear speaker assemblies from the vehicle.





10. Remove the nuts retaining the squab-panel support bracket, and remove the bracket. (Illustration 1).

11. Raise the convertible top to the 3/4 raised position.

12. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

13. Rotate the valve on the convertible-top operating pump to manual position.





14. Remove the retaining screws, and remove LH and RH cantrail seals (Illustration 2).

15. Remove the retaining screws, and remove LH and RH cantrail seal carriers.





16. Remove LH and RH main-column seals (Illustration 3).

17. Remove the retaining screws, and remove LH and RH main-column seal carriers.





18. Remove the retaining screws, and remove the latch striker from the header plate (Illustration 4).

19. Remove the retaining screws, and remove both latch guide-pins from the header plate.





20. Remove the retaining screws, and remove the header plate from the convertible-top frame, (Illustration 5).

Note:
Note the areas where the exterior cover and padding bag are bonded to the frame, for reference when reinstalling the cover and padding bag.

21. Release the front edge and main-column areas of the exterior cover, which are bonded to the frame with adhesive.





22. Disconnect the exterior cover's side tension cables from the frame (Illustration 6).





23. Release the exterior cover's front stiffener rod from the retaining slots in the frame (Illustration 7).

24. Fold the exterior cover back to access the padding bag.

25. Release the padding bag where it is bonded to the frame with adhesive.

26. Remove the 8 screws retaining the padding bag "P"-clips to the front of the frame, collect the 2 outer "P"-clips.





27. Manually move the convertible top to the fully raised position (Illustration 8).

28. Fold the exterior cover and padding bag to the rear of the vehicle.





29. Release both of the headlining rear tensioning rods (Illustration 9).





30. Remove the screws retaining each side of the headlining to the main-column brackets of the convertible-top frame (Illustration 10).





31. Drill-out the 2 pop-rivets retaining the rear of the headlining (Illustration 11).

32. If necessary, release the headlining where it is bonded to the pull-down handle aperture.





33. Drill-out the 2 pop-rivets retaining the headlining side tension cords to the frame, taking care not to damage the tension cords (Illustration 12).





34. Drill-out 7 pop-rivets retaining the front bow-rail to the frame (Illustration 13).

35. Remove the front how-rail from the piping in the headlining and from the tension cords and straps.

36. Drill-out the 3 pop-rivets retaining the center how-rail.

37. Remove the center bow-rail from the piping in the headlining.





38. Release the flange on the rear edge of the headlining from the retaining slot in the rear bow-rail (Illustration 14).





39. Release the 2 bushes retaining the headlining rear tension cables in the frame (Illustration 15).

40. Remove the bushes from the rear tension cables, and release the cables from the frame.

41. Release the fasteners retaining the headlining to the cantrail area of the frame.

42. Release the front of the headlining from the double-sided adhesive tape.

43. Release the side tension cords and rear tension cables from the headlining and remove the headlining from the vehicle.

44. Vacuum the drill debris from the vehicle.

45. Remove and discard the double-sided adhesive tape from the front of the frame.

46. Remove the trim from the pull-down handle aperture.

47. On early production vehicles perform the modification described in Technical Bulletin 50114 to convert from the existing press stud fasteners to the more robust fir-tree fasteners.
