Hood Release Cable - Loose at Release Lever - Repair Procedure

Issue:

The right side hood release latch may fail to release on some 1997 MY XK8 vehicles within the above VIN range. This may occur because the cable has become detached from the release lever.

A modified mounting of the cables entered production starting with VIN 004356.

Action:

After verifying the above complaint on a 1997 MY XK8 vehicle within the above VIN range, perform the following modification:

1. Move the left side seat fully to the rear to improve access to the under dash area.

2. Reposition the outer cable of the right side latch in the lever housing in the left side "A" pillar.





3. Use a tie strap to secure both release cables to the second harness mounting stud over the release lever (Illustration 1).

NOTE:
The tie strap should only be tightened enough to slightly raise the cables ahead of the release lever.
