EGR Valve Harness - Reroute - Service Action S666

ISSUE:
A number of 1996 MY Sedan XJR vehicles within the above VIN range have the EGR valve wiring harness routed incorrectly.

ACTION:
Inspect all 1996 MY XJR Sedan vehicles within the above VIN range and re-route the wiring harness, so that possible contact with the EGR valve is eliminated.

INSPECTING AND RE-ROUTING EGR HARNESS

1. Check whether the harness is routed outboard or inboard of the air conditioning line (illustration 1).

If the harness is routed outboard of the air conditioning line as in the inset of illustration 1, the routing is correct.

If the harness is routed inboard of the air conditioning line as in the main illustration, the routing is incorrect and must be corrected.

2. Disconnect the harness connector (illustration 1) from the EGR valve, and pull the harness downward until it is below the A/C line.

3. Re-route the EGR harness outboard of the air conditioning line as in the inset of illustration 1. Reconnect the harness connector to the EGR valve. Make sure the harness is now clear of the EGR valve.
