Lower Wishbone
Lower Wishbone, Remove & Refit
Note: Prior to carrying out remove & refits, an absorbent cloth should be placed around the brake fluid reservoir cap.
^ Jack up the vehicle securely.
^ Undo and remove wheel nuts.
^ Remove wheel / tire assembly.
^ Fit lower adaptors to service tool JD 115 and fit this to the front spring (Fig. 1).
^ Engage dowel in slots of suspension turret tops.
Note: Ensure that dowel is seared correctly.
^ Tighten tools to tension spring until the load is taken of the spring pan.
^ Undo and remove spring pan securing bolt, slacken off tool wing nut to release tension on spring.
^ Remove tool from suspension assembly.
^ Refit in reverse order to removal procedure.
^ Remove spring plate and road spring from the tool.
^ Remove the brake caliper anti- squeal spring (1 Fig. 1).
^ Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor block connector (2 Fig. 1).
^ Remove bolt dust caps and socket head bolts (3 Fig. 1)
^ Remove the brake pads (4 Fig. 1).
Note: Ensure that the calliper is placed where the brake hose and harnesses are not stressed.
Note: Ensure the brake calliper piston is fully retracted and remains in that position until the pads are refitted
WARNING: BRAKE PAD / LINING DUST CAN, IF INHALED DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH. ALWAYS USE A VACUUM BRUSH TO REMOVE DRY BRAKE PAD / LINING DUST. NEVER USE AN AIR LINE.
^ Remove track end rod securing nut.
^ Fit service tool JD 100 and break taper.
^ Undo and remove steering rack to cross member fixings and spacers.
^ Undo and remove the stabilizer bar link arm lower securing nut and bolt.
^ Undo and remove upper ball joint fixings and shims.
^ Undo and remove fulcrum shaft nut and damper lower mounting fixings.
^ Remove front wishbone.
^ Remove rear wishbone/stub axle assembly.
^ Clamp the front wishbone arm in to a vice mounted on a on a suitable work bench.
^ Ensure that the top hat of the bush faces upwards.
^ Cut and remove the top hat sides (Fig. 2) and remove assembly from vice.
^ Position the wishbone arm between press adaptor plates, fit service tool JD 143-4 (Fig. 3) and extract bush.
^ Refit in reverse order to removal procedures.
WARNING: AFTER THE REFITTING OF BRAKES, APPLICATION OF BRAKE PEDALS MUST BE CARRIED OUT, AS THE BRAKES WILL NOT OPERATE EFFICIENTLY UNTIL PADS ARE CORRECTLY POSITIONED.
Note: Ensure that steering geometry is checked and set correctly.
