A/C - Schrader Valve Added to Pressure Cutout Switch
82-40Air Conditioning Pressure Cutout Switches - Schrader Valves Added - Revised Torque Setting
MODEL: Sedan Range 1995 MY
DATE 10/94
ISSUE:
The refrigerant liquid lines of 1995 MY Sedan Range vehicles from VIN 720580 have Schrader valves in the fittings for the dual (binary) and triple (trinary) pressure cutout switches. The Schrader valves allow the switches to be removed without depressurizing the system. No Schrader valves are fitted to 1995 Sedan Range vehicles from VIN 720001 - 720579.
NOTE
XJ12 is fitted with a dual (binary) pressure cutout switch only.
ACTION:
Before removing pressure cutout switches from 1995 MY Sedan Range vehicles check the VIN number to ascertain if Schrader valves are fitted to the refrigerant liquid line. Follow the appropriate procedure described below.
VIN 720001 - 720579 NO SCHRADER VALVES
VIN 720580 ON SCHRADER VALVES
VIN 720001 - 720579 - NO SCHRADER VALVES
Vehicles within this VIN range may be labeled with a warning. "DEGAS PRIOR TO REMOVAL." (Illustration 1)
Before removing the pressure switches on these vehicles always depressurize and recover the refrigerant
^ Depressurize both the high and low sides of the refrigerant system using approved R13a recovery equipment.
WARNING
The absence of a label on vehicles within this VIN range does not mean that Schrader valves are fitted. ALWAYS DEPRESSURIZE VEHICLES WITHIN VIN RANGE 720001 - 720579. Observe all safety precautions when working with refrigerant. Use only approved recovery equipment It is illegal to vent refrigerant to the atmosphere.
SERVICE PORT LOCATIONS - ALL 1995 MV SEDAN RANGE VEHICLES
SEDAN (4.0L) RANGER
HIGH SIDE PORT - Compressor outlet pipe - Right side of engine cooling fan duct
LOW SIDE PORT - Compressor intake pipe - Right side of engine compartment near bulkhead.
XJ12
HIGH SIDE PORT - Compressor outlet flange

^ Torque the pressure cutout switches to 3.5 - 6 lb ft (5 - 8 Nm). Do not exceed 6 lb ft.
WARNING
DO NOT EXCEED 6 lb ft (8 Nm) TORQUE WHEN TIGHTENING PRESSURE CUTOUT SWITCHES. Overtightening will result in failure of the Schrader valve causing liquid refrigerant to be discharged when the switch is removed.
VIN 720580 ON - SCHRADER VALVES
^ It is not necessary to depressurize the system on these vehicles when removing the dual (binary) or triple (trinary) pressure cutout switches.
^ Torque the pressure cutout switches to 3.5 - 6 lb ft (5 - 8 Nm). Do not exceed 6 lb ft.
