Throttle Cable/Linkage: Service and Repair
- Displace and remove the throttle cable to linkage retaining clip.- Disconnect the inner cable from the throttle linkage.
Fig. 1:
- Undo the cable to bracket locknut and reposition the cable from the mounting bracket (Fig 1).
- Displace the tunnel carpet from around the throttle pedal.
- Remove the split pin, withdraw the clevis pin and displace the inner cable from the pedal.
Fig. 2:
- Displace the plenum chamber drain tube for access (1 Fig. 2).
- Remove the bulkhead plate securing bolts (lower LH position has retaining nut) (2 Fig. 2).
- Displace the cable and plate assembly (3 Fig. 2) from the bulkhead.
- Remove the split pin and displace the cable from the lever arm.
- Withdraw the cable from the plate.
- Fit the replacement cable to the plate, connect to the lever arm and insert new split pin.
- Clean the gasket faces and apply new gasket sealant.
- Fit and align assembly to the bulkhead ensuring connecting rod passes into footwell.
- Secure plate to bulkhead.
- Reconnect rod to the pedal assembly.
- Position the cable to the throttle linkage.
- Connect and secure the inner cable to the linkage with retaining clip.
- Adjust to remove excessive free play and tighten locknut.
