Performing Manual Checks

PERFORMING MANUAL CHECKS

If manual checks are selected, PDU will provide further options to select specific areas of the system to be tested. This will be followed by functional tests to confirm that a fault exists. If a fault does exist, PDU will use the above "Performing Tests" procedure to locate the fault.

NOTE:
When performing diagnosis, refer to the 1995 XJS Workshop OBDII Supplement. Identify the proper diagnostic chart by referencing the DTC code.

FREEZE FRAME

When in the Diagnostics mode, The highest priority Freeze Frame information can be accessed. To do this, press the star (*) located at the bottom right of the screen. A menu will be displayed with one option being "Show Trace". Highlighting this option will display the Freeze Frame information. Additionally, this Freeze Frame information can be printed out on JDS using software issue DBC 4093.

SERIAL CABLES

Two new serial cables have been introduced, one to connect JDS to the new (J 1962) diagnostic connector an the other for FDU. The new diagnostic connector is located in the driver's footwell area adjacent to the A post.

The FDU serial cable has a new feature in that it can also be used to power the PDU when performing datalogger tests (this replaces the VBA for datalogger tests). To supply power to the FDU:

^ Connect the gray serial cable to both vehicle and PDU
^ Connect the purple plug from the serial cable to the PDU/VBA port (this replaces the battery pack which was previously used)

RELAY TEST CABLE

The relay test cable enables the PDU to quickly and accurately diagnose faults with either a relay or it's associated circuit. This cable will only be used during diagnostics by FDU. To connect the relay test cable:

^ First, connect the VIA to the PDU
^ The relay test cable can then be connected to connector A on the VIA
^ Connection to the vehicle requires disconnection of the relay
^ The test cable is then connected between the relay base and the relay
