Diagnosing Logged Faults

DIAGNOSING LOGGED FAULTS

Selecting "LOGGED FAULTS" will cause PDU to interrogate the BCM and display all of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored. The DTCs will be displayed as a list containing four columns.

1. The first column will display the "P" code.
2. The second column will display an acronym to describe the code. Highlighting either of these columns and pressing the information icon will cause FDU to display a description of the code.
3. The third column will indicate whether the DTC is emissions related.

4. The final column indicates the test status of each code. Initially all of the codes will have a "?" in this column indicating that PDU has not tested the area covered by the code. As each code is tested the "?" will be replaced by either an "X" to indicate test failed or a "Checkmark Symbol" to indicate test passed.

NOTE:
The Information "I" icon should be used whenever there is a question about a DTC or supporting OBDII acronyms.

The DTCs may be tested in any order. To select a code to test:

^ Highlight the code
^ Press the "Checkmark Symbol" icon in the left upper corner of the screen

This operation will lead to a screen that looks identical in layout to the VDV screens.

PERFORMING TESTS

As with the VDV screen, this screen is separated into three areas:

^ Text at the top
^ A diagram in the middle
^ Icon buttons at the bottom

TEXT AREA

The first line of the text area will show an icon to indicate the operation to be performed, followed by the name of the connector involved, similar to JDS. Highlighting this icon and selecting information will provide it's meaning. If the operation involves probing, an icon depicting a probe will be displayed.

NOTE:
The red probe can be identified by the "Checkmark Symbol" on it.

The second line will describe the connector type, by pressing the "down arrow" icon the text can be scrolled to reveal a third line detailing the connector location.

GRAPHICS AREA

The graphics area will display a relevant view of the connector described in the text area. Pressing the "magnifying glass" icon at the bottom of the screen will cause this view to change to a view of the vehicle depicting the connectors location. Pressing the "six wire" icon will display pin/wire information.

If the operation requested involves taking a measurement, pressing the "Checkmark Symbol" icon will cause the text area of the display to change to the probe reading. The probe reading can be displayed either digitally or as a bar graph, selection being made by the "digital/bar graph" icon at the bottom of the screen. On the bar graph display the limits used represent the limits that PDU is looking for.

If either "<<" or ">>" appear at the end of the bar graph, this indicates that the ACTUAL reading is either, less than or greater than the value at the respective end of the display.

The "probe" icon at the bottom of the screen will cause the PDU to confirm the probe instructions.

To take a measurement, press the "Checkmark Symbol" icon, FDU will then request that this is confirmed by acknowledging a pop up confirmation screen.

When all of the testing for a particular code is complete, FDU will display fault description similar to those available on JDS. After this PDU will return to the DTC screen and update the status of the relevant transmission or engine management code.
