Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type Definitions
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type DefinitionsEmission Related DTC
Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type A
- The diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) control module requests the engine control module (ECM) to illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails.
- The DEF control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails, and stores this information in the Freeze Frame.
- The ECM sets DTC P20C9 when the DEF control module sets Type A DTC. The ECM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails, and stores this information in the Freeze Frame/ Failure Records.
- The DEF control module and the ECM take defaulted warning actions. Refer to Default Action and Fail-Safe List.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type B
- The DEF control module requests the ECM to illuminate the MIL on the second consecutive driving cycle when the diagnostic runs and fails.
- The DEF control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails on the second consecutive driving cycle, and stores this information in the Freeze Frame.
- The ECM sets DTC P20C9 when the DEF control module sets Type B DTC. The ECM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails, and stores this information in the Freeze Frame.
- The DEF control module and the ECM take defaulted warning actions. Refer to Default Action and Fail-Safe List.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC - Type A or Type B
- The ECM turns OFF the MIL after 4 consecutive driving cycles when the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
- A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported.
- Use the Isuzu Diagnostic Service System (IDSS) to clear the DTC.
Notice: The cancellation of the Fail-Safe is performed only by the Isuzu Diagnostic Service System (Except 2011).
Non-Emissions Related DTC
Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type C
- The DEF control module requests the ECM to illuminate the Service Vehicle Soon (SVS) lamp when the diagnostic runs and fails.
- The ECM sets DTC P1463 when the DEF control module sets Type C DTC. The ECM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails, and stores this information in the Failure Records.
- The DEF control module and the ECM take defaulted warning actions. Refer to Default Action and Fail-Safe List.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC - Type C
- The ECM turns OFF the SVS lamp after 1 driving cycle when the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
- A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported.
- Use a scan tool to clear the DTC.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type D
- The DEF control module does not request to illuminate any lamp.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC - Type D
- A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported.
- Use a scan tool to clear the DTC.
