Cylinder Head

CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL

1. Remove the hood.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Remove the air cleaner.
4. Remove the radiator upper fan shroud.
5. Remove the drive belt tensioner and the drive belt.
6. Remove the cooling fan assembly (4 bolts) and the cooling fan pulley.
7. Remove the power steering pump.
8. Drain the engine coolant.
9. Drain the engine oil.
10. Remove the crankshaft pulley:

- Attach the flange holder (T/N 07RAB-TB4010B) with the holder handle (T/N 07JAB-001020A) to the pulley.
- While holding the pulley with the tool, remove the pulley bolt and the pulley.
- Install the pulley bolt. (When needed later, this will allow you to turn the crankshaft by hand.)

11. Remove the cylinder head covers.
12. Remove the timing belt.
13. Remove the common chamber.
14. Remove the exhaust manifolds.





15. Remove the cylinder heads:
- Loosen the head bolts in the sequence shown below.
- Remove and discard the head bolts.
Remove the cylinder heads.

Installation
1. Install cylinder head assembly to cylinder block.
A. Put cylinder head gasket on the cylinder block.





Note: There is discrimination mark "R" for right bank and "L" for left bank on the cylinder head gasket as shown in the illustration.

Do not reuse cylinder head gasket.
B. Align dowel pin hole to dowel pin on the cylinder block.
C. Position cylinder head on the cylinder block.
D. Tighten two bolts temporarily by hand to prevent the cylinder head assembly from moving.





E. Using J-24239-01 cylinder head bolt wrench, tighten bolts in numerical order as shown in the illustration to the specified torque.

Note: Do not reuse cylinder head bolts.

Do not apply any lubricant to the cylinder head bolts.
Torque:
Temporary: 29 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
Final: 64 Nm (47 ft. lbs.)
2. Install common chamber.
3. Install cylinder head cover RH.
4. Install cylinder head cover LH.
5. Install timing belt.
6. Install crankshaft pulley.
