Wiper Gear Box: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Tools Required
J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator




1. Remove the wiper arms.
2. Remove the air inlet grille panel.
3. Remove the transmission drive link from the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39232.




4. Remove the transmission screws.
5. Remove the transmission assembly from the vehicle through the access openings in the top of the cowl.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required
Wiper Transmission Installer J 39529

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Note in Service Precautions.




1. Install the transmission assembly to the vehicle.




2. Install the transmission mounting screws.

Tighten
Tighten the wiper transmission assembly mounting screws to 8 N.m (70 lb in).

IMPORTANT:
- Lubricate the inside of the socket with white lithium grease.
- The wiper transmission assembly must be assembled to the crank arm past the second detent so the seal is compressed to a maximum height of 25.5 mm (1 in).

3. Install the transmission drive link to the wiper motor crank arm using the Wiper Transmission Installer J 39529.
4. Install the air inlet grille panel.
5. Install the wiper arms.

Inspection Procedure
Perform the System Check.
