Air Injection Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Raise the vehicle.
3. For a 2WD vehicle, skip steps 6 and 7.
For a 4WD vehicle, skip steps 4 and 5.




4. Remove the AIR shield mounting bolts.




5. Remove the AIR shield.




6. Remove the retaining bolts from the steering Linkage shield.




7. Remove the steering Linkage shield.




8. Remove the AIR injection reactor pipe assembly from the pump assembly by loosening the spring clamp.




9. Remove the AIR injection reactor pump hose from the pump assembly by loosening the spring clamp.




10. Disconnect the AIR pump and solenoid electrical connectors.




11. Remove the AIR pump mounting bolts.




12. Remove the AIR pump.

INSTALLATION




1. Align the AIR pump bracket with the mounting holes.






2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Note in Service Precautions.

Install the AIR pump mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).




3. Connect the AIR pump and solenoid electrical connectors.




4. Connect the AIR injection reactor pump hose to the pump assembly with a hose clamp.




4. Install the AIR injection reactor pipe assembly to the pump assembly with a hose clamp.
5. For a 2WD vehicle, skip steps 9 and 10.
For a 4WD vehicle, skip steps 7 and 8.




6. Align the AIR shield




7. Install the AIR shield mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).




8. Align the steering Linkage shield.




9. Install the Linkage shield mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
