Brake Backing Plate Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the brake shoes.
Refer to Brake Shoe; Service and Repair.
2. Remove the wheel cylinder.
Refer to Wheel Cylinder; Service and Repair; Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the axle shaft.




4. Remove four bolts and washers.
5. Remove the backing plate.






Installation Procedure

1. Install the backing plate.
2. Install four bolts and washers.
Tighten
Tighten the backing plate mounting bolts to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).
3. Install the axle shaft.
4. Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder; Service and Repair; Removal and Installation.
5. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
6. Bleed the brake system.
