TBI Unit Replace








REMOVAL
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure. (Refer to "Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure".)
3. Air cleaner assembly.
4. Electrical connectors to IAC valve, TP Sensor and fuel injectors.
5. Injector wiring harness.
6. Throttle cable, transmission control cable, and cruise control cable (wherever applicable).
7. Cable support bracket attaching screws and bracket.
8. Vacuum hoses (noting position of hoses) and bracket.
9. Fuel feed and return lines.
- Use a back-up wrench on TBI fuel nuts to prevent then from turning.
10. Fuel line 0-rings (30, 37) and discard.
11. TBI attaching bolts.
12. TBI unit and flange gasket (70).
- Discard gasket

IMPORTANT:
- Stuff manifold opening with a shop towel to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the engine.

NOTICE:
- Use care in cleaning old gasket material from machined aluminum surfaces. Sharp tools may damage sealing surfaces.

CLEAN
Gasket sealing surfaces.

INSTALLATION
1. New TBI flange gasket (70).
2. TBI unit.
3. TBI attaching bolts.

Tighten
- TBI attaching bolt/studs to 25.0 N.m (18.0 lb.ft.)


4. New 0-rings (30, 37) on fuel lines.
5. Fuel feed and return lines.

Tighten
- Fuel line nuts to 27.0 N.m (20 lb.ft.)


- Use a back-up wrench on the TBI fuel nuts to prevent them from turning.

6. Vacuum hoses and bracket.
7. Cable support bracket attaching screws and bracket.

Tighten
- Cable support bracket attaching screws to 10.0 N.m (8.8 lb.ft.)


8. Throttle cable, transmission control cable, and cruise control cable (wherever applicable).

IMPORTANT:
- Make sure throttle and cruise control cables do not hold throttle open. Refer to ENGINE FUEL for additional information on accelerator controls.

9. Injector wiring harness.
10. Electrical connectors, making sure connectors are fully seated and latched.
11. Tighten fuel filler cap.
12. Negative battery terminal.

INSPECTION AND REPAIR
- With the engine "OFF", check to see that the accelerator pedal is free.
- Depress pedal to the floor and release.
- Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" position for ten seconds. Again turn switch to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
13. Air cleaner assembly.
14. Reset IAC valve pintle position:
a. Depress accelerator pedal slightly.
b. Start and run engine for three seconds.
C. Turn ignition "OFF" for ten seconds.
d. Restart engine and check for proper idle operation.
