Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain radiator coolant.
3. Remove intake manifold, then disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
4. If removing left cylinder head, disconnect ground cable from cylinder head, then electrical connector from water temperature sensor.
5. Loosen A/C compressor drive belt, then remove A/C compressor from engine and position aside. Proceed to Step 9.
6. If removing right cylinder head, disconnect ignition coil connectors.
7. Disconnect cruise control vacuum hose, if equipped.
8. Remove ignition coil bracket, then spark plug wires from spark plugs.
9. Remove belt tensioner, then alternator and bracket.
10. Remove rocker arm cover, then rocker arms.
11. Remove pushrods. Pushrods must be reinstalled in same position as removed.
12. Remove cylinder head bolts, then the cylinder head.

13. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Using sequence shown in Fig. 20, torque cylinder head bolts in two steps, first step to 41 ft. lbs., second step an additional 90°.
b. Tighten all remaining components to specifications.
