Fuel Pressure Regulator: Description and Operation
Fig. 2 TBI Fuel Flow Diagram:
PURPOSE
Maintains fuel pressure between 62 - 90 kPa (9 - 13 psi).
LOCATION
Incorporated into the fuel meter cover, in the TBI unit.
OPERATION
Fuel pressure is regulated by the difference between fuel pump pressure acting one side of the diaphragm and the force of a calibrated spring (with throttle chamber air pressure) acting upon the other side.
The fuel meter cover includes an air bleed that relieves system pressure after the engine is stopped. The bleed also helps purge air from the injector and regulator after a hot re-start.
CONSTRUCTION
Contains an air chamber and a fuel chamber that are separated by a diaphragm-operated relief valve and a calibrated spring.
