Thermostatic Air Cleaner Vacuum Motor: Description and Operation

ACL Operation:

PURPOSE
Opens and closes damper door.

LOCATION
On top of air cleaner snorkel.

OPERATION
When no vacuum is applied to the diaphragm, the internal spring forces the rod down. As vacuum is applied, the diaphragm retracts, overcoming spring pressure, pulling the rod in.

CONSTRUCTION
The vacuum motor has a chamber that has a rubber membrane dividing it into two chambers. One side of the chamber is sealed, except for a vacuum fitting. The other side of the chamber is partially sealed. Inside the sealed chamber is a spring that keeps the membrane from moving towards the vacuum fitting. On the other side of the diaphragm, a rod is attached. The rod extends out of the housing and connects to the damper door.
