SERVICE INFORMATION
Some vehicles may experience a MIL "On" condition after vehicle service if a lubricant is used on vacuum hoses which is not properly formulated for use on Nissan vehicles.
As of the date of publication, Nissan is aware of no lubricant generally available in the marketplace which is properly formulated for use on Nissan vehicles other than Texaco Canopus 13 Mineral Oil. Accordingly Nissan recommends that, if a lubricant is applied during vacuum hose installation, only Texaco Canopus 13 Mineral Oil be used, and that the correct application procedure be followed.
NOTE:
Nissan will not reimburse dealers for vacuum hose installation performed under warranty, a Nissan service contract. or as goodwill if any lubricant other than Texaco Canopus 13 Mineral Oil is used.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
If vacuum hose installation is difficult, apply Texaco Canopus 13 Mineral Oil or equivalent (Nissan is currently aware of no equivalent product) (see Parts Information table) as follows:
1. Dip a clean coffee stirrer or comparable applicator into the can of mineral oil.
NOTE:
If the applicator used is hollow, ensure that oil does not get trapped inside by placing your thumb over one end before dipping the other end in the oil.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the bottle of mineral oil to be open and exposed unless it is being used. It is very important to keep the mineral oil free from contamination (debris, dust, etc.). Failure to do so can create additional incidents.
2. Gently insert the coated stirrer slightly inside the tip of the vacuum hose (see Figure 1).
NOTE:
Do not exceed 1/4 inch (5 mm) from the edge of the hose. Excessive oil can also result in a MIL "On" incident.
CAUTION:
Apply mineral oil to vacuum hose only; do not get oil on the component.
