SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK
Description:
An improperly functioning key lock module may result in the following conditions:
^ The shift lever cannot be moved out of Park with the ignition ON and the brake pedal depressed.
^ The shift lever can be moved out of Park using the shift override button

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position or push the Start/Stop Button two times.
2. Using a GDS, check for DTC in the "Automatic Transaxle" menu. Record any DTC and description. Repair according to the related shop manual, DTC Section.
NOTE
An intermittent brake switch input may result in the same symptoms as listed in this bulletin.
3. From the GDS, select the following parameters.
^ Vehicle and A/T menu.
^ "Current Data"
^ Shift Lever Switch and Brake Switch.
4. Move the shift lever into Park. Confirm the Shift Lever Switch indicates P. If not, go to Step 5.
Confirm the "Brake Switch indicates ON when the brake pedal is depressed. If not, check the brake switch operation according to the related shop manual, "Brake Switch" section and "Repair Procedures". Replace the brake switch, if necessary. Go to Step 5.
5. Visually check the wiring harness between the PCM and key lock module for a damaged wire or open circuit/short circuit to ground. Check for a damaged pin or pin not fully inserted into the connector.
^ If damage exists, repair or replace the control harness and confirm the repair.
^ If no damage or open/short circuit if found, go to Step 6.
6. Remove the undercover panel below the glove box
7. Lower the panel to access the key lock module.
Disconnect the connector to the module
8. Turn the ignition switch ON and test the inputs to the key lock control module.
Use a voltmeter and a small pin to probe the # 4 harness connector. The voltage should be:
Confirm the following pins have 12 volts with the ignition on: # 2, # 4, # 5, # 7, # 10, and # 13.
Replace the key lock module if the inputs to the control module are correct.
9. Reinstall the undercover.
