RELEARN - MIL ON DTC P0638 / P2110

DESCRIPTION:

This bulletin provides the procedure to reset and relearn the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) adaptive values for throttle valve position on vehicles with Theta-2.0L/2.4L gasoline engines.

The following DTC may be related to ETC adapted values and resolved by the service procedure of this bulletin so as not to need part replacement:

- P0638: Throttle actuator control range/performance

- P2110: Throttle actuator control system - Force limited RPM

When performing any of the following, the ETC adaptive values should be reset and relearned after the repair using the service procedure included in this bulletin:

- ETC assembly or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) replacement

- ECM replacement

- ECM software update

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:

^ Genesis Coupe (BK) 2.0L Turbo

^ Santa Fe (CM) 2.4L

^ Tucson (LM) 2.4L

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

How to Reset and Relearn ETC Adaptive Value:

NOTE:
If the engine is started without waiting at least 5 seconds after turning the ignition key ON to allow the ECM to automatically learn the throttle valve position, MIL illumination may occur with DTC P0638 and P2110. In this case, follow the above procedure again.

NOTE:
If equipped with the PUSH BUTTON ENGINE START SYSTEM, push the engine start button 2 times WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL to allow the ECM to automatically learn the throttle valve position, and then wait for at least 5 seconds.

GDS steps to Reset Adaptives Values of the ECU:

1. Select Option Treatment at GDS main menu:

2. GDS should automatically determine VIN, then enter Engine Control System.

3. Select Resetting Adaptive Values:

4. Enter Reset to clear all adaptives in the ECU including those for ETC then OK:

5. Confirmation that ECU adaptive value reset has completed:
