Description
In contrast to the initial one-stage airbag systems, newer restraint systems involve complex logic to select, or alternatively suppress, various levels of safety system deployment. Inherent to a Low Risk Deployment Airbag System is the ability to discern information regarding passenger occupancy. It is intended that these inputs be provided through the Body Sense system.
The object of such safety system is to reduce the risk and level of injuries by automatically adapting the airbag(s) and seat belt pretensioner to the driving status of the vehicle, its occupants, and the crash severity. The current Body Sense system covered in this specification continually senses and classifies the front passenger side seat.
Body Sense system detects seat occupancy and classifies the occupant by using an electrical field sensor and the electrical field sensor is very sensitive to moisture and electronic devices.
CAUTION:
- If some electronic devices such as laptop computer, aftermarket DMB, navigation device, satellite radio, video game machine, MP3 player are put on/around a passenger seat cushion or water is spilled (poured) on the seat cushion, the airbag warning lamp may be illuminated with DTC B1448.
