FRONT MUFFLER PIPE HANGER BRACKET RATTLE
Description:
Some 2008-2011 Accent vehicles may exhibit a rattle noise condition from underneath the vehicle near the front muffler pipe assembly. This bulletin provides a procedure to replace either the Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Assembly or the Front Muffler Assembly based on the inspection
results.

Inspection Procedure:
1. Lift the vehicle to access the exhaust pipe underneath.
2. Locate the front muffler pipe hanger bracket as indicated in the photo on the right.
3. Inspect the front muffler pipe hanger bracket (A) for any signs of separation from the muffler pipe
(B).
> If the hanger bracket (A) is completely separated from the front muffler pipe, replace the front muffler pipe hanger bracket. Follow the "Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Bracket Replacement" procedure
in this bulletin to complete the repair.
> If the hanger bracket (A) is only partially separated from the front muffler pipe, then try to separate the hanger bracket from the
front muffler pipe by using a striking tool to separate the remaining portion of the weld.
> If the hanger bracket can be successfully separated from the front muffler pipe, then follow the "Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Bracket Replacement" procedure in this bulletin to complete the repair.
> If the hanger bracket cannot be separated from the front muffler pipe, then follow the "Front Muffler Replacement" procedure in this bulletin to complete the repair.
Front Muffler Pipe Hanger Bracket Replacement:
1. Remove the front muffler pipe hanger bracket and the rubber hangers from the vehicle.
2. Reuse the removed rubber hangers by installing them to the new front muffler pipe hanger bracket (as shown in the picture on the right).
3. Install the new front muffler pipe hanger bracket (C) to the original position by tightening the mounting nuts with specified tightening torque.
> Tighten the clamp fasteners using a torque wrench set to 50 N-m (37 lb-ft).
> Verify that the clamp is positioned properly and tight by attempting to rotate by hand.
Front Muffler Replacement:
1. Remove the rubber hangers from the ends of
the front muffler pipe hanger bracket (A).
2. Disconnect and remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor (B) from the front muffler.
3. Remove the front muffler from the vehicle by loosening mounting fasteners (C).
> Tighten the fasteners using a torque wrench set to 35 N-m (26 lb-ft) during reassembly.
4. Install the new front muffler to the vehicle in reverse order of removal.
