Body - Front Bumper Gap Adjustment Procedure

DESCRIPTION

This service procedure describes how to inspect and adjust the gap between the head lamp and the front bumper cover.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES
Model: GENESIS Coupe(BK)

Production date range: From September 23, 2008 to May 21, 2009

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Check the gap (A) between the lower edge of the head lamp and the upper edge of the front bumper cover.

NOTE:
Specified gap: 3.0 +/- 0.5mm

2. If the gap exceeds the specification, adjust the gap by following the below procedures.

NOTE:
Adjust the gap only on the affected side.

3. Open the hood.





4. Remove the radiator grill clips (8EA).





5. Remove the 2 bumper side mounting screws (B) (one on each side).

6. Remove the 4 bumper lower mounting clips (C) (two on each side).





7. Partially remove the bumper side mounting parts on both sides. (D) Right bumper side mounting part





8. Disconnect fog lamp connectors (E) on both sides and remove the front bumper fascia.

CAUTION:
Do not damage the bumper fascia





9. Place blocks on each end side of the F.E.M. (Front End Module) to support the F.E.M.

NOTE:
Arrows indicate points where blocks are positioned.





10. Lightly loosen the F.E.M. mounting bolts (F) on both sides.

NOTE:
Tightening torque: 0.5~0.6 kgf.m (1b.ft.)

NOTE:
The photo shows the bolt on the right side.





11. Lightly loosen the F.E.M. and bumper rail mounting bolts and nuts (G) on both sides.

NOTE:
Tightening torque: Bolts (2EA each side): 1.2~1.5 kgf.m (1b.ft.)

NOTE:
Tightening torque: Nuts (1EA each side): 0.5~0.6 kgf.m (1b.ft.)

NOTE:
The photo shows the bolt and nut on the right side.





12. Lightly loosen the F.E.M. lower mounting bolts (H) on both sides.

NOTE:
Tightening torque: 1.2~1.5 kgf.m (1b.ft.)

NOTE:
The photo shows the bolt on the right side.





13. Lightly loosen the F.E.M. upper mounting bolts (I).

NOTE:
Tightening torque: 1.2~1.5 kgf.m (1b.ft.)

NOTE:
The photo shows the bolt on the right side.





14. Pull up the F.E.M. and fasten all F.E.M. mounting bolts and nuts.

15. Install the front bumper cover and check the gap between the lower edge of the head lamp and the upper edge of the front bumper cover.

NOTE:
Specified gap: 3.0 +/- 0.5mm

16. Check if the gap is within specification. If the gap is OK, complete the procedure. If it is not, go to the next step.





17. Lightly loosen the front bumper upper side bracket mounting bolts (J), and fully push the bracket up and tighten the mounting bolts (J).

18. Check if the gap is within specification. If the gap is OK, complete the procedure. If it is not, go to the next step.





19. Remove the front bumper upper side mounting bracket (K) by unfastening the 2 bolts.

NOTE:
Tightening torque: 0.5~0.6kgf.m (1b.ft.)





20. With a file (N) file the side mounting bracket holes and guide pin holes (L, M) to be expanded downward.

IMPORTANT:
Do not file both sides of the hole. Properly file holes according to the gap error difference. Red portions (L, M) should be filed.





21. Re-install the front bumper cover and verify the gap is within specification.





22. Re-install the bumper upper side mounting bracket and the front bumper cover and check the gap between the lower edge of the head lamp and the upper edge of the front bumper cover.

NOTE:
Specified gap: 3.0 +/- 0.5mm





23. If the gap is not within specification, lightly loosen the head lamp mounting bolts (O), and then adjust the gap between the lower edge of the head lamp and the upper edge of the front bumper cover and retighten the head lamp mounting bolts.

24. Re-install in reverse order.

25. Check fog lamp operation after repair is completed.

26. Perform headlamp aim if step 23 was performed
