FUNCTIONS OF ENGINE TEMPERATURE INDICATOR LIGHTS:

SERVICE INFORMATION:

NOTE: All dealer service and sales personnel, and customers should be made aware of the following information:

^ Function of the Low Engine Temperature Indicator Light

^ The low engine temperature indicator light illuminates when the engine has not reached normal operating temperature.

^ During cold start before full engine warm-up, the illumination of this light does not signify a malfunction or defects of the engine or engine cooling system.

^ Once the engine has reached sufficient operating temperature, the low engine temperature indicator light will turn off.

^ If the low engine temperature indicator light remains illuminated after the engine has reached normal operating temperature, the cause should be diagnosed.

Function of the High Engine Temperature Warning Light

^ The high engine temperature warning light illuminates when the engine coolant temperature exceeds a specified temperature.

^ In case of this condition, use the following procedures.

a. Turn on the hazard warning flasher, then drive to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle. Set the transaxle in P(Park) or N(Neutral) and apply the parking brake.

b. Make sure the air conditioner is off.

c. If coolant or steam is boiling out of the radiator, stop the engine and call an authorized dealer for assistance.

d. If coolant is not boiling out, allow the engine to idle and open the hood to allow the engine to cool gradually.

e. If the temperature does not go down with the engine idling, stop the engine and allow sufficient time for it to cool.

WARNING: Do not remove the engine coolant reservoir cap or radiator cap hen the engine coolant is hot. Hot engine coolant can cause serious injuries.
