WINDSHIELD GLASS WATER LEAK (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T39)
This TSB has been reissued to correct the part number color information.
IMPORTANT:
DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES PRIOR TO CUSTOMER RETAIL DELIVERY AND WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR.
IMPORTANT:
WHEN A VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ACCESS HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S "WARRANTY VEHICLE INFORMATION" SCREEN VIA DCS ON-LINE TO IDENTIFY OPEN CAMPAIGNS.
DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin provides the procedure to repair a potential water leak from the upper left windshield area if the sealant does not completely fill the gap between the body and the glass. This TSB will show how to apply windshield sealant into the gap.

PARTS REQUIRED
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the LH sun visor (B) and the center mount (C).
2. Remove the headliner clip (D).
CAUTION:
Take care not to damage the headlining.
3. Drill a 1/8" hole in the "R" on the SRS screw cover (F). Be careful not to scratch the A pillar trim (E).
CAUTION:
Only drill through the plastic cover. Do not drill deeper than the plastic cover.
4. Insert a screwdriver or pick into the hole and pull the SRS screw cover out of the A pillar trim.
NOTE:
Do not pry the cover out from the edge
5. Remove the mounting screw under the cover.
6. Pull back the outer door weatherstrip and unsnap the LH A pillar trim. Note how the metal clip is mounted near the bottom of the door opening.
7. Use needle nose pliers to remove the tether from the SRS screw cover, and to insert it into the new SRS screw cover.
Replace with part numbers:
85819-2H000-4W (Beige)
Or
85819-2H000-8M (Gray)
8. Remove the rubber spacer (C) and discard it.
9. Widen the space between the headlining and the roof panel by using sponges or rolled clean shop towels (H) as shown.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to bend the headlining.
10. Mask the edge of the headliner in the upper left hand corner, the area shown by (I) in the picture.
11. Prepare the Sealant tube for application:
Cut just the edge of the nozzle (J), keeping it small enough to fit between the windshield glass and the flange. Cut it so the tip is 5 mm diameter (K).
This drawing indicates where the sealant will be applied:
- L shows where the current sealant is applied
- M shows where the current sealant does not completely seal against the glass
- N shows where the first application of sealant will applied (see steps 12 and 13)
- 0 shows where to apply the second bead of sealant (see steps 14 and 15)

^ 0: 2nd application of sealant (6-3/8", 160 mm), plus P (1-1/4", 30 mm) - See steps 14 and 15

NOTE:
This picture shows a removed windshield for dimensioning purposes.
Do not remove the glass.
12. Apply the first bead of sealant, as per the drawing above (designated as N in the drawings).
CAUTION:
Do not allow windshield sealant to drip on any interior surfaces. If necessary, mask off the likely drip spots.
13. Use a small tool, such as a plastic trim stick or a narrow screwdriver to push the sealant into the gap between the windshield and the body.
CAUTION:
Do not scratch the windshield or the painted body surfaces.
14. Apply the second bead of sealant, as per the drawings (designated as 0 and P in the drawings).
CAUTION:
Do not allow windshield sealant to drip on any interior surfaces. If necessary, mask off the likely drip spots.
15. Use a small tool, such as a plastic trim stick or a narrow screwdriver to push the sealant into the gap between the windshield and the body.
CAUTION:
Do not scratch the windshield or the painted body surfaces
16. Install all the removed parts in reverse order of removal.
