REAR FOLDING SEAT BACK RELEASE
DESCRIPTION:
In some vehicles, the rear seats may not properly release to fold down. When the handle in the trunk is pulled, it does not stay out to allow the seat back to fold. This TSB will describe how to repair this condition.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
^ Model: 2007 ELANTRA Vehicles
^ Affected vehicle production date range: Produced from JOB # 1 to November 18, 2006
PARTS REQUIRED
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Verify the VIN is affected by verifying production date of the vehicles.
2. Verify the rear seats are latched in the upright position.
3. Open the trunk and pull the LH and RH rear seat latch release handles (A).
4. After the handles (B) have been pulled, the red band (C) should stay visible.
^ If either handle pops back in, proceed to the steps below.
^ If both handles stays out, with the red band visible, no further action is required.
5. Fold the rear seat backs (D) down.
NOTE:
If the seat release handle will not stay out, you may need an assistant to hold the handle while you fold the seat down.
6. Attach the EVA soft pad (E) under the striker (F) as shown on the right photo.
CAUTION:
Be sure to attach the pad under the center of the striker, so the adhesive is between the post bases. Be sure to line it up so the center of the pad is under the striker.
NOTE:
Install the pads on both rear seats at the same time, so the seats will fold similarly.
