2.0L MECHANICAL LASH ADJUSTER MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND SHOP MANUAL CORRECTIONS
DESCRIPTION:
This TSB provides the maintenance schedule for the 2001-02 Elantra, as well as the 2003 Tiburon equipped with the 2.0L engine. It also provides revisions to the shop manual for valve clearance specifications.
2.0 Liter Mechanical Lash Adjuster Maintenance Schedule
Inspect for excessive valve noise (audible inspection) and for excessive engine vibration every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or 48 months (whichever occurs first) and adjust to specification if necessary.
Valve Clearance Specifications (Measured with a cold engine at 59°F - 77°F)
NOTE:
Refer to shop manual for shim measurements and part numbers.
Specification to determine shim replacement
Intake: Maximum: 0.28 mm (0.011"); replace shim if 0.29 mm (0.012") or greater
Exhaust: Maximum: 0.38 mm (0.015"); replace shim if 0.39 mm (0.016") or greater
Specification after installing a new shim
Intake: Nominal 0.20 mm (0.008"); Range 0.17-0.23 mm (0.007" - 0.009")
Exhaust: Nominal 0.28 mm (0.011"); Range 0.25-0.31 mm (0.010" - 0.012")
NOTE:
The specification range is tighter after installing a new shim.
