SHOP MANUAL CORRECTION FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P1372 DIAGNOSIS
DESCRIPTION:
Four Shop Manuals provide some incorrect diagnostic information for diagnostic trouble code P1372 (SEGMENT TIME ACQUISITION INCORRECT).
The sensor related to code P1372 is the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). This code does NOT have any relationship to the Right Front-Wheel Speed Sensor (RF-WSS).
Code P1372 is set when the measured time for a 120 degree rotation of the crankshaft (called a "SEGMENT") varies too much from one segment to the next segment. The time is measured (by the ECM) by analyzing the CKP sensor signal.
AFFECTED SHOP MANUALS:
The Shop Manuals shown have errors related to code P1372 on the pages as shown.
EXAMPLE OF TROUBLE AREA PAGE:
The 2002 XD Elantra Shop Manual is described below as an example; however, the issue is the same for all of the affected shop manuals.
^ Page FL-22 contains part of the table which provides the technician with the diagnostic guide, "TROUBLE AREA RELATED TO DTC" as shown.
^ For DTC P1372 (Segment Time Acquisition Incorrect), the suggested diagnostic areas to check are:
^ Improperly Installed Target Wheel
^ Faulty Wires Between ECM and Wheel Speed Sensor
^ Bad signal of Wheel Speed Sensor
^ Poor Connection
^ Faulty Crank Position Sensor
CORRECTION:
There is no relationship between code P1372 and the Right-Front Wheel Speed Sensor.
Please write this TSB number at the top of the appropriate page of the affected Shop Manuals for future reference.
Cross out the incorrect information on the shop manual "trouble area" pages shown in this TSB.
EXAMPLE OF TROUBLESHOOTING FOR DTC PAGE:
The 2003 Tiburon Shop Manual is described below as an example; however, the issue is the same for all of the affected shop manuals.
^ Page FLA-129 contains a Diagnostic Troubleshooting Tree for P1372 shown.
^ The Diagnostic Tree is incorrect. The wheel speed sensor is diagnosed in this tree; however, this sensor is not related to code P1372.
CORRECTION:
There is no relationship between code P1372 and the Right-Front Wheel Speed Sensor.
Check Items are:
^ Check the crankshaft position sensor "tonewheel" for damage.
^ Check the airgap between the crankshaft position sensor and the tonewheel. The gap should not vary more than 0.7 mm (measure at various locations around the tonewheel).
