DESCRIPTION:
This TSB provides shop manual corrections for the 2001-2002 Elantra and the 2003 Tiburon (2.0L) Shop Manuals. The following pages are affected:
^ Page EM-36 of the 2001 Elantra Shop Manual
^ Page EM-44 of the 2002 Elantra Shop Manual
^ Page EM-45 of the 2003 Tiburon Shop Manual
SYMPTOMS/CONDITIONS of a mistimed camshaft system (all must apply):
1. Camshafts have previously been removed from the engine.
2. Engine runs rough.
3. Vehicle sets P0340 (camshaft sensor code).
4. Camshaft sensor has been checked with a known, properly operating camshaft sensor.
CORRECT:
The diagram in the manuals should show the timing marks on both cam gears to be on the blue timing chain links.
INCORRECT:
The incorrect diagram in the manuals (below) shows the left cam timing mark on the cam gear to be 1/2 link to the left of the blue timing link. This will cause the engine to run rough and set DTC P0340.
