Rear
REAR DISC BRAKECOMPONENT
REMOVAL
1. Remove the wheel.
2. Remove the brake fluid hose.
3. Remove the caliper assembly mounting bolts (2EA).
4. Remove the brake pad and caliper assembly.
5. Remove the parking brake cable after disconnecting the parking brake cable mounting clip.
INSPECTION
1. Check the pads for wear or oil contamination and replace if necessary.
NOTE: The pads for the right and left wheels should be replaced at the same time.
Brake pad thickness
Standard value: 9 mm (0.354 inch)
Service limited value: 2 mm (0.079 inch)
2. Check the leading and trailing shoe keys and retaining screw for damage, or wear. Replace the keys and retaining screw at the same time when the pads are replaced.
3. Check dust boots for wear or damage. If dust or mud has entered the caliper assembly through this seal, the caliper assembly must be replaced.
4. Before replacing the brake pads, drain the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir until it is half full.
5. Inspect the disc by using a calipers and a dial gauge.
Thickness of disc mm (inch)
Standard value: 10 mm (0.394 inch)
Service limit: 8 mm (0.315 inch)
Runout of the disc: 0.08 mm (0.003 inch)
Difference of thickness: 0.01 mm (0.0004 inch)
NOTE:
1. Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness at eight positions approximately 5mm from the outer edge of the disc and at 45° intervals.
If you subtract the minimum of measurements from the maximum, you get the difference of the disc thickness.
2. When measuring the disc runout, fix a dial gauge approximately 5 mm from the outer edge of the disc, and rotate the disc 360°.
At this time, if you subtract the minimum of measurements from the maximum, you get the disc runout.
6. If necessary, replace the brake disc.
INSTALLATION
1. Check the piston bore and piston for wear, damage, or rust. Replace damaged parts if necessary.
2. Check the piston seal, boot, and cam boot for wear or tear.
3. Apply recommended lubricant to the following parts.
4. Push the piston into the caliper with the special tool.
