Procedure





1. Fully close the sunroof. Use the sunroof emergency handle (supplied with the vehicle) if necessary. Turn the ignition key to the "L0CK" position and remove the key.





2. Remove the sunvisors and the sunvisor retainers.

NOTE
The base cover for the sunvisor can be removed with a hook awl. Carefully pull the lip of the cover off of the sun visor base.





3. Open the sunglasses holder and remove the rear screws from the room lamp assembly. Remove the room lamp lens (look for the notches near the switches) and remove the front screws from the room lamp assembly. Pull the room lamp assembly down and disconnect the wire harnesses.

4. Use a trim tool to remove the two trim mounting plugs from the front of the headliner.





5. Remove both "A" pillar trims. Start at the top rear, and carefully pull the clips out of the sheet metal. Work towards the front, down the "A" pillar, carefully pulling one clip at a time.





6. Remove the roof rear cover trim. Carefully pop the two clips from one side, then pull the trim towards that side to release the trim from the remaining two clips.

NOTE
If the trim mounting Clip requires replacement, order part number 85849-3B000.





7. Use a trim tool to remove the two trim mounting plugs from the rear of the headliner.





8. Carefully pull down on the headliner around the sunroof opening to open the dual lock fasteners.





9. Carefully slide the headliner forward until the sunroof motor and controller are accessible.





NOTE:
Make sure the front of the headliner clears the rear view mirror.

10. Disconnect the roof wire harness from the sunroof controller.

11. Cut the two wire ties from around the sunroof controller and the sunroof motor wire harness.





12. Slide the sunroof controller off of its bracket.

13. Remove three mounting screws from the sunroof motor. Remove the sunroof motor.





14. This is the sunroof bracket with the sunroof motor and controller removed.





15. Install the new sunroof motor using the three screws that were removed. Tighten the screws securely.





16. Slide the new sunroof controller onto its bracket.





17. Connect the sunroof motor connector to the sunroof controller. The controller is marked "motor" above the motor connector.

18. Use a new wire tie (140 mm) to secure the sunroof motor wire harness to the sunroof assembly. Trim the excess wire tie.





19. Use a new wire tie (200 mm) to secure the sunroof controller to its bracket. Trim the excess wire tie.

20. Connect the roof wire harness to the sunroof controller. The controller is marked "main" above the roof wire harness connector.

21. Temporarily reconnect the room lamp (and sunroof switch) assembly. Initialize the sunroof controller by pressing and holding the sunroof "UP" and "OPEN" buttons on the room lamp assembly while you turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Verify that the sunroof operates.





CAUTION
The sunroof may open as you release the buttons. The roof area should be free of obstructions and the paint protection film should be removed.

IMPORTANT
Fuses 15 and 24 must be in place and operational for the initialization to work.

NOTE
If the sunroof does not operate, diagnose the circuit using page SD122 and SD123 of the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM).

22. Reassemble the trim in the following order:

1. Slide the headliner back into place.

IMPORTANT
There is a clip in the rear center that must clip onto the sunroof bracket





2. Snap the dual lock fasteners together around the sunroof opening





3. Insert the four trim mounting plugs into the front and rear of the headliner.

4. Install the roof rear cover trim.

5. Install both "A" pillar trims.

6. Install the room lamp assembly.

7. Install the sunvisors and the sunvisor retainers.
