2001-02 ELANTRA 2-3 SHIFT FLARE TCM REPROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS

DESCRIPTION:
Some 2001-02 Elantra vehicles may experience a 2-3 shift flare condition (engine speed increases during shift).

The following procedure describes updating the TCM (Transaxle Control Module) software by using the Hi-Scan Pro.

VEHICLES AFFECTED:
^ Model: 2001-02 ELANTRA vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions

^ Affected vehicle production date range:

- 4 Door model: Produced from January 3, 2001 through November 21, 2001

- 5 Door model: Produced from March 22, 2001 through November 21, 2001

^ Affected vehicle identification number (VIN) range:

- 4 Door model: Produced from KMHDN45D11U11926 to KMHDN45D52U328995

- 5 Door model: Produced from KMHDN55D21U0209994 to KMHDN55D02U050500

CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING:

1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.

2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.

WARNING:
If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.

3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.

4. Do not turn the ignition key off during reprogramming.

5. When the reprogramming is completed, turn off the ignition key for 20 seconds before starting the engine.
