Subject
FUSE # 1 BLOWN - ELECTROCHROMIC (EC) MIRROR
WIRE HARNESS SHORT

DESCRIPTION:

Some 2002-03 MY Elantra vehicles equipped with sunroofs may intermittently experience a blown fuse # 1 (10A; Turn Signal Lamp/Back Up Lamp, located in the passenger compartment fuse box) when the "REVERSE" gear (manual or automatic) is selected.

If the root cause of a blown fuse # 1 is not located in the back up lamp circuit, check the self-dimming electrochromic (EC) rearview mirror wire harness (3-pin, white connector M99) for a short to ground. This harness is located above the headliner, to the right of the room lamp assembly.

The EC rearview mirror connector is not utilized because this feature is not offered in the U.S. Market.

The EC mirror connector is not shown in the 2002 Elantra Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM), but is shown in the 2003 Elantra ETM. Please note this TSB number at the bottom of page SD-150 of the 2002 Elantra ETM and page SD-120 of the 2003 Elantra ETM for future reference.

NOTE:
The EC rearview mirror connector is not present in vehicles without sun roofs.
