Service Procedure

NOTE:
Both pulse generator-B inspection and TCM reprogramming procedures should be performed.

PULSE GENERATOR-B INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1. Open and secure the hood.

2. Remove the resonator.

3. Locate the pulse generator under the battery tray. Disconnect the pulse generator connector (blue) and remove the pulse generator male connector (black) from the bracket.

4. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between terminal No. 3 and No. 4 in the disconnected pulse generator male connector (black color).

Resistance value:
215-275W (at 20°C or 68°F)

If the resistance is lower or higher than the specification, replace the pulse generator (P/N 45955-22700).

If the resistance is within specification go to Step 5.

5. Clean both ends of the disconnected pulse generator connectors with aerosol electrical contact cleaner.

6. Apply contact grease (P/N 00305-F0000-39, NYOGEL 760G), into all four terminal openings of the blue female connector until each terminal opening is completely filled with grease.

7. Reconnect the pulse generator connectors and reattach the connector to the bracket. Reinstall all removed components in the reverse order of removal.

TCM SPECIFICATIONS

CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING:

1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.

2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.

3. Do not start the engine or turn the ignition key off during reprogramming.

WARNING:
If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.

4. When the reprogramming is completed, turn off the ignition key for 20 seconds before starting the engine.

TCM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:

1. Insert the 16 MB reprogramming card into the top slot of the Hi-Scan Pro.

2. Connect the reprogramming adapter to the Hi-Scan Pro.

3. Connect the white reprogramming connector (2 pin or 10 pin) to the reprogramming adapter.

NOTE:
Use the correct connector:

^ 2000-01 Accent: White 2-pin connector.

^ 2002 Accent: White 10-pin connector

4. Connect power to the Hi-Scan Pro from the cigarette power adapter.

5. Insert the power cable from the reprogramming adapter into the cigarette power adapter.

6. Connect the cigarette power adapter into the vehicle cigarette power socket.

7. 2000-01 ACCENT prior to 3/30/01: Connect the white 2-pin reprogramming connector to the vehicle black 2-pin TCM reprogramming connector under the dash. The 2-pin connector is located 6 above the Data Link Connector (DLC).

8. 2001 ACCENT from 3/30/01 and 2002 ACCENT: Connect the white 10-pin reprogramming connector to the vehicle white 10-pin TCM reprogramming connector under the dash. The 10-pin connector is located next to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

9. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

10. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.

11. Select option "18. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT" and press ENTER.

12. Select option "01. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT [AUTO]" and press ENTER.

13. Enter "1229" as the password for automatic update and press ENTER.

14. Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication.

15. Hi-Scan Pro detects the current TCM ID, then displays it for about 1 second.

NOTE:
Example:
TCM ID: AH2A44-F

16. The boot program will download first, next the main program and then the interrupt vector program.

NOTE:
If the Hi-Scan Pro does not download the program, use the Manual Update Procedure following this section.

WARNING:
Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The TCM may be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.

17. When the "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED!" message is displayed, the TCM reprogramming process is complete.

18. Turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 seconds and then start the engine to check for proper operation.

19. Check for DTC in the "Engine" and "Automatic Transaxle" menus using the Hi-Scan Pro with SOL card. Erase all DTC.

NOTE:
The following erroneous DTC may be set in the ECM after reprogramming. Erase all DTC:

^ P1765: Torque reduction request

^ P1613: MIL request line - High

^ P1693: MIL request line - MAL

MANUAL UPDATE PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
^ In the event that option "01. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT [AUTO]" fails to download the new TCM program, option "02. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT [ERROR]" must be used.

^ Confirm all connections are established as shown in the "AUTOMATIC UPDATE PROCEDURE" before continuing.

1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.

3. Select option "18. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT" and press ENTER.

4. Select option "02. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT [ERROR]" and press ENTER.

5. Select LC 1.5L SOHC or LC 1.6L DOHC.

6. Enter correct password for the manual update mode and press ENTER.

7. Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication.

NOTE:
Once the password is entered and accepted, the rest of the process is exactly the same as the automatic update procedure.

8. Hi-Scan Pro will reprogram the TCM.

WARNING:
Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The TCM may be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.

9. Hi-Scan Pro checks the TCM ID to confirm reprogramming is complete.

10. When the "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED!" message is displayed, the TCM reprogramming process is complete. Turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 seconds and then start the engine to check for proper operation.

11. Check for DTC in the "Engine" and "Automatic Transaxle" menus using the Hi-Scan Pro with SOL card. Erase any DTC.

EXPLANATION OF ERROR MESSAGE:

1. "INVALID PASSWORD": Please enter the exact password again.

2. "REPROGRAMMING ERROR, PLEASE WAIT FOR RETRY": An error occurred during reprogramming, the Hi-Scan Pro will retry reprogramming automatically.

3. "ALREADY REPROGRAMMED" or "INCORRECT TARGET ID": The reprogramming has previously been done on this vehicle or the 1CM is not the type subject to this reprogramming procedure.

4. "REPROGRAM ERROR, PLEASE CHECK THE SYSTEM": In this case, you must reprogram manually after selecting the menu option "02. LC AT VSS NOISE IMPROVEMENT [ERROR]".
