This bulletin is to inform dealers of a procedure to repair a condition caused by corrosion of the ATM diode pins in the control wiring located behind the dash panel. The corrosion may be caused by water from the cowl top panel entering through the control wiring harness grommet into the dash panel area.
A corroded ATM diode may result in the following symptoms:

^ Diagnostic trouble code P0708 (Transaxle range switch - Short circuit)
^ Diagnostic trouble code P1529 (TCM error- Invalid message)
^ Diagnostic trouble code P1586 (Encoding signal circuit not rational)
^ Harsh shift and transaxle held in 3rd gear fail-safe mode.
When you have verified that an Accent (LC) with these symptoms exists, follow the ATM diode replacement procedure listed below. Do not replace the automatic transaxle or control wiring harness. This repair is to be performed only on vehicles that have experienced one or more of the above described symptoms.
