Front









REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle and remove the front wheel.
2. Remove the drive shaft nut.
3. Remove the front brake assembly from the knuckle and suspend it with a wire.
4. Remove the vehicle speed sensor from the knuckle.





5. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle using the Special Tool.

NOTE:
1. Be sure to tie the cord of the special tool to the nearby part.
2. Loose the nut, but do not remove it.





6. Disconnect the strut assembly from the knuckle.
7. Disconnect the drive shaft from the hub.





8. Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle using the Special Tool.
9. Remove the hub and knuckle as an assembly.
10. Installation is the reverse of removal.

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the brake disc from the hub.





2. Remove the snap ring.





3. Install the Special Tools as illustrated.
4. Remove the hub from the knuckle by turning the Special Tool.
5. Remove the Special Tool and dust cover.





6. Remove the bearing inner race from the hub using the Special Tool.





7. Using the Special Tool, remove the wheel bearing outer race from the knuckle.

INSPECTION
1. Check the hub for cracks and the splines for wear.
2. Check the brake disc for scoring and damage.
3. Check the knuckle for cracks.
4. Check the snap ring for crack or damage.

REASSEMBLY
1. Apply a thin coat of multi-purpose grease to the knuckle hub and bearing contact surface.





2. Using the Special Tool, press-in the bearing to the knuckle.

NOTE:
1. Do not press on the inner race of the wheel bearing. That will cause damage to the bearing assembly.
2. When installing a bearing assembly, always use a new one.

3. Install the dust cover.





4. Using the Special Tool, press-in the hub to the knuckle.

NOTE:
Do not press on the outer race of the wheel bearing.
That will cause damage to the bearing assembly.

5. Install the brake disc.





6. Tighten the hub to the knuckle to 240 Nm (2400 kg-cm, 177 ft. lbs.) with the Special Tool.
7. Rotate the hub several times to seat the bearing.





8. Measure the hub bearing starting torque.





9. If the starting torque is 0 Nm (0 inch lbs.) , measure the hub bearing axial play.








10. If the hub axial play exceeds the limit while the nut is tightened to 240 Nm (2400 kg-cm, 177 ft. lbs.) , the bearing, hub and knuckle have not been installed correctly. Repeat the disassembly and assembly procedure.
11. Remove the Special Tool.
