2002 ACCENT - CHANGE TO CABLELESS
TYPE SPEEDOMETER





As a running change on the 2002 Accent vehicles the speedometer cable has been discontinued and replaced with a cableless type speedometer. Furthermore, the speedometer driven gear on the transaxle has been changed to an electronic speed sensor that provides vehicle speed information to the speedometer, ECM, and TCM. The electrical schematics from pages SD-80, SD-82, and SD-83 of the 2002 Accent ETM (pub. A25E-EU15B) have been revised to include this change. These schematics are included at the end of this bulletin.

Please mark this TSB number on the appropriate pages of the affected ETM for future reference.

AFFECTED VEHICLES:

All 2002 Accent vehicles with automatic transaxle produced from March 7, 2002.

REPAIR INFORMATION:

If you are replacing a 2002 Accent transaxle, please check that the new transaxle has the correct gear installed (speedometer driven gear or speed sensor). If not, swap the correct gear from the removed transaxle to the installed transaxle.

NOTE:

Use appropriate parts for each system. The parts are not interchangeable.
