AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF)
LEAK FROM PAN GASKET

Certain ELANTRA (RD) and TIBURON (RC) vehicles equipped with A4BF1 and A4BF2 type Automatic Transaxies (ATMS) may expenence an Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) leak from the transaxle's oil pan.

If you are servicing a vehicle with an ATF leak at the automatic transaxle's pan gasket, replace the sheet gasket and apply sealant to the pan flange and sheet gasket in accordance with the service procedure outlined in this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Elantra RD and Tiburon RC vehicles equipped with A4BF1 or A4BF2 Automatic Transaxles.





Parts Required

Service Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist and remove the engine under cover.

2. Remove the transaxle's drain plug and drain the Automatic Transaxle Fluid.

3. Remove the transaxle's oil pan from the transaxle.

4. Completely remove all traces of the existing pan gasket from the pan and the pan mounting surface on the transaxle.








5. Using the sealants nozzle apply a continuous 1.0 mm diameter bead of FIPG around the perimeter of the oil pan flange's centre-line.
Keep to the inside when applying sealant around the bolt holes. (See illustration.)

6. Install the new ATM oil pan sheet gasket onto the oil pan flange. Be sure to align all the bolt holes of the gasket with those in the oil pan.








7. Using the sealants nozzle apply a continuous 1.0 mm diameter bead of FIPG around the perimeter of the oil pan gasket's centre-line.
Keep to the inside when applying sealant around the bolt holes. (See illustration.)

8. Place the ATM oil pan on its mating surface on the transaxle and finger-tighten all the mounting bolts.





9. After all bolts have been finger-tightened, torque each bolt to specification, being sure to apply even pressure around the pan by torqueing the bolts in a cross-cross pattern.

10. Reinstall the drain plug.

11. Reinstall the engine under cover.





12. Lower the vehicle and add the specified type and amount of ATF.

13. Test drive the vehicle until the ATF reaches its normal operating temperature (70~100°C).

14. Park the vehicle and check the ATM's fluid level and adjust as necessary.

15. Check the ATM oil pan for leaks.
