Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection

IDLE SPEED CHECK PROCEDURES

NOTE: Before adjusting, check that the spark plugs, injectors, idle speed control actuator and compression ratio etc. are normal.

Checking conditions;
- Engine coolant temperature is 80 to 95 °C (176 to 205 °F).
- Lights, electric cooling fan and all accessories are off.
- Transaxle is in neutral ["P" or "N" range for A/T vehicles].
- Steering wheel is straight forward position (Vehicles with power steering).




1. Install the tachometer to the primary coil side or connect the HI-SCAN to the data link connector on the coin box.
2. Start and run the engine at curb idle speed.
3. Run the engine for more than 5 seconds at an engine speed of 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. Run the engine at idle for 2 minutes.
4. Read the idling rpm.
