SUBJECT
ENGINE COMPARTMENT NOISE ON
COLD ENGINE START
On some 2000 model year Elantras, a noise may be heard for the first few minutes after starting and driving in cold weather. The customer may describe the noise as appearing to come from the instrument cluster or dash panel area. It may be described as a groan, rubbing noise or a squeak.
The noise may be caused by the accelerator cable outer housing rubbing on the bottom of the air intake hose.
REPAIR
To eliminate this noise, wrap the accelerator cable where it passes under the air intake hose with an adhesive backed tape, such as "camper shell tape".
