Subject
1999 ELANTRA & TIBURON IDLE POSITION SWITCH ON A/T EQUIPPED VEHICLES

DESCRIPTION:

Effective June 1, 1999 production, the idle position switch (located on the throttle body, just below the throttle cam) is no longer used and is no longer connected to the control harness.

NOTE:
The idle position switch connector from the control harness has been eliminated.

On vehicles produced prior to June 1, 1999, this switch informs the Transaxle Control Module (TCM) when the throttle is in the idle position. Beginning with June 1, 1999 production, the idle position information is gathered by the TPS and delivered to the TCM by the Engine Control Module (ECM).

NOTE:
The idle position switch continues to be installed on vehicles produced after June 1, 1999 production, but it is NOT connected to the control harness and it has no function.

The ECM Part Number has not changed.

The TCM Part Number has changed:

^ PREVIOUS TCM (Pre-June 1, 1999 Production) - P/N = 95440-28651

^ NEW TCM (Beginning-June 1, 1999 Production) - P/N = 95440-28850
